FEED Studies

Front End Engineering Design Studies

Consultus Sustainability can present a blueprint of turn-key solutions for energy infrastructure projects through FEED studies.

FEED (Front End Engineering Design) studies represent the start of the asset construction process, with planning up to an evaluation stage.

Full layout and facility drawings act as the design basis, with a full feasibility study providing analysis of every possible outcome.

It’s from an initial concept that FEED defines a life-of-project understanding, while mitigating risks from regulatory, technical and execution standpoints.

Clear guidance for engineers and estimated investment costs are also included, along with step-by-step deliverables to execute implementation.

By establishing specific requirements, there is less chance of significant changes being required, after the project is given the green light. This gives the client peace of mind.

FEED studies can be applied to renewable electric, low carbon thermal and energy efficiency projects, all of which can be managed by Consultus Sustainability.

The Consultus Sustainability approach to FEED studies is comprised of three stages, all of which will take implementation to the next level. This encompasses: –

During stage one, Consultus will assess all possible opportunities in scope. Each opportunity will be explored from a high-level, with key metrics displayed in the final S1 client report.

Exploring all opportunities helps to assess the viability of the site potential and provides a more informed decision of which technologies should progress to stage two.

In addition to evaluating the possibilities, initial assessments are done to uncover any potential hazards that might derail a project, such as flood zones or buried services.

Stage 1 - Scope & Options

The most viable system designs from stage one are refined and modelled using specific design software, with key system performance and financial metrics then calculated.

Both renewable generation and energy efficiency measures are considered in stage two, including management of the electricity produced.

If there is sufficient excess generation potential, battery storage or further electrification of the site (such installing a heat pump or upgrading to an electric boiler) are considered.

To further assess the project’s viability, an offer to the electricity grid would be sought and a pre-planning application submitted.

Stage 2 - Technical Analysis

The formal grid and planning applications are prepared and submitted by Consultus, on the client’s behalf, with input from specialist consultants as required.

Consultus can conduct a comprehensive multi-tender process, for all works required, to take the project from design to implementation, with a full project budget, cash-flow and schedule.

The finalised system design is prepared, following feedback from detailed site surveys, local planning authority and the grid, with the final solution being presented to the client.
